Preparation Steps
Boil gallnuts with iron filings until the water disappears and two-thirds remain. Then clarify it and place it in a vessel. Leave it for a day, and pour over it for every *ratl* of water the weight of a dirham of vitriol. Add Gum Arabic to it as much as is sufficient. If you want it to be excellent, take *khumri* gallnuts, crush them, and soak them with the filings. Pour five *ratls* of water over every *ratl* of filings, then boil it thoroughly. Clarify it and pour over every *ratl* of water four dirhams of vitriol and write with it.
