Preparation Steps
Take three *uqiyyahs* of gallnuts, one *uqiyyah* of vitriol, and one and a half *uqiyyahs* of Gum Arabic. Crush the gallnuts and pour eight parts of water over each part. Soak it for a day and a night, or more if it is better. Then boil it over a gentle fire until two-thirds remain. If the gallnuts have disintegrated, it is better. Then soak the Gum Arabic in water that submerges it before cooking the gallnuts until it becomes like honey. When the gallnuts are cooked, throw the Gum Arabic into it and leave it until the whole is dissolved. Then draw a line with it and add the vitriol to it after grinding it. If it is sufficient, then fine; otherwise, add vitriol and clarify it and write with it. Do not add the gum unless it is soaked.
