Take an *uqiyyah* (ounce) of crushed gallnuts and an *uqiyyah* of Gum Arabic. Mix them and pour eight times their volume of water over them. Place them in a bottle in the sun for three days, then clarify it. After that, add four dirhams of Roman vitriol or Iraqi vitriol to it. If Roman vitriol is not found, and it is summer, leave it in the sun for four days; if it is winter, for twelve days. Write with it, God willing.
