Preparation Steps
A large dome is built with no hole in it and no window, and its middle is built square and placed on the Dukkan [bench] of Sandarus and barley, then fire is lit in it, and the door of the dome is closed and left until it burns, then it is cooled and the door is opened and the smoke is collected with sieves, then the skins that fall from the owners of the parchments and notebooks that are written in them are taken and placed in a pot and water is poured over them and placed on the fire. If it dissolves and becomes like glue, knead it with that glue, and make it into tablets and dry it and use it.
