Remarks

The text provides a biographical account of a contemporary of Sheikh al-Hafni who, despite poverty, purchased a 'dawah' (inkwell) to facilitate the copying of manuscripts (binskh al-kutub). This indicates the continued tradition of hand-copying religious and scholarly texts in 18th-century Cairo (p. 461).
