Remarks

FTIR spectra show absorption bands characteristic of cellulose. The most informative region is 1500-1900 cm-1 for examining degradation. Key bands include 1730 cm-1 (carboxyl/aldehyde groups), 1620 cm-1 (conjugated carbonyl groups), and 3330-3430 cm-1 (OH stretching vibrations) (p. 76). Variations in intensity relate to cellulose oxidation and acidity (p. 76-77).
